Many of us wondered on Tuesday the reason for all of the website blackouts. Businesses all over the country began to protest online against Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PIPA. SOPA is a proposed bill to prevent copyright infringement by restricting access to certain sites that host or facilitate the trading of pirated content. The main companies aimed to stop with the bill are those overseas. Although good in intent, tech companies and others feel the vague language of the bill could have unforeseen affects on business. A violation could main government penalty, even your website being shut down. With a dependence on online sales and customer usage, this could leave companies gasping for air. |
YouTube, which has millions of user-uploaded videos published, can be tremendously affected. If any illegal activity occurs on their website, it would black out immediately. It's gone. Business types like these can lose users, and put pressure on them to handle tedious censor control.
Many companies have protested the bills via online, however, some businesses took their protest further. NY Tech Meetup, a local networking company, protested yesterday wanting desired results from their congressman, US Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, right outside their offices. Protest organizer Nate Westheimer said, "We're here to make sure our senators know that the New York tech community, which employs tens of thousands of people, really will not take no for an answer." "The provisions that are being suggested right now would undermine the way the Internet works." Other live protests took place around the country yesterday, such as Seattle and San Francisco as well. Congress is looking now to satisfy supporters and opposers.
SOPA and PIPA can affect your business, mainly your source of driving sales, which is your website. Whether a corporation or large business, e-commerce has proven to be key for business growth. Similarly, the delivery of your products can affect your business. Courier Service like AQuickDelivery assists large corporations and small businesses deliver their products to their end customers. The ride is finally over and shoppers have marched into 2012 with their holiday packages. Online sales had it's greatest year ever, reaching upwards of a 15% increase. However, reports are showing many of those packages those same shoppers ordered online, they are not going to keep.
Report from Yahoo News on Tuesday, returns are expected to hit all-time highs beginning January 3. UPS stated in the report they will handle over 550,000 package returns that day. They will also be handling returns of the same volume on others days of the first week of the new year as well. "This will definitely be the busiest year for returns," said UPS marketing director Ken Burkeen. Retailers will handle millions of returns this first week of the new year.
The return rate, although great, is an indicator of the growth of e-commerce. Customers have begun to gain more confidence in online shopping and using tech tools such as ipads and smartphones to do it. Mr. Burkeen also stated overall returns relative to percentage of sales is lower, which is due to companies making their websites more shopper friendly. Therefore, companies are putting a greater emphasis on selling online.
In spite of the the high returns expected this week, the positive news is that online business is taking a greater role in selling and can be taken as a serious component to grow your business. With nationwide couriers likeAQuickDelivery, the logistics component of delivering the very products purchased online can be made quickly and cost-effectively. A company, whether a product delivery or return, know they can compete, even with the largest of companies online.

An issue with a package delivery at any other time of the year, may not get too much attention. However, when it comes the Christmas time deliveries, those packages aren't just packages. They are gifts and are worth more than just the price tag that was attached to them. They have value. That delivery is not just an issue any longer--it has become a crisis.
|
Thousands of last-minute packages have been and are being sent all around the world this week. Online shopping has been at an all-time high, up 15% this year. The various shipping options connected with online sales has been the difference maker. This has been overwhelming for shipping companies, such as UPS. In a recent ABC News report, one worker stated they have delivered 300 packages a second. However, even with technology use and the shipment day guarantee, will the gifts get delivered by Christmas?
"Our prediction is very good," said Jim Cramer, a UPS Meteorologist, in the same report. "Rain for most of the East. There will be snow in the Northeast, but north of where we land our jets, so I think our packages can get to where they are going." Fed Ex, on the other hand, may have delays to the west coast due to winter storms in Colorado. Both of the shipping giants are counted on to ship nearly 175 million packages during the holiday season.
This is especially informative for last-minute shoppers that are mailing packages off this week, hoping to have their packages delivered by Christmas. A primary and/or secondary shipping option during the holiday season is a courier to help any delivery crisis.
Couriers Services like
A-1 Express have a nationwide footprint for same-day delivery of various-sized packages. This will be the best choice to help your gift can make it.

This past weekend on Christmas Eve and the day before, shoppers were still shopping. Shippers were still shipping. Bad deliveries were still being addressed. UPS was handling one of their own similar driver mess-ups and reported on Christmas Day they have fired the employee caught tossing a package.
On December 15th, One of their drivers was caught throwing a Zappos package and added some additional unprofessional behavior, flicking his middle finger to the security camera. UPS spokeswoman Natalie Godwin stated to NBC News, "We don’t tolerate such conduct." The delivery driver was a seasonal employee.
|
This follows the Fedex incident where a driver was caught flinging a samsung monitor over a 6ft fence, which sparked the wrong type of courier publicity during this holiday season. This was the beginning of national close-up of delivery companies and their driver's day-to-day conduct. Tremendous media attention caused customers to consider how couriers are handling customer's packages. Sure, customers want them to be fast, but not that fast. A fast delivery is no use if it is a damaged one.
It would be saddening for a delivery recipient if their packaged was damaged by the company delivering it, not to mention during Christmas time. With a little of the holiday season left, there are other couriers customers can depend on for package delivery. Couriers Services like AQuickDelivery promote safety and no tossing of packages.

One small company in Seattleproves that innovation, insight into the needs of an industry, and good old hard work can cause growth in business. CNN reported EagleView has reshaped a $30 billion dollar industry. Sparked from his brother-in-law and roofing salesman, David Carlson, Chris Pershing, was inspired with an innovative idea. He created a 3-D imaging on-demand report that could capture measurements of almost every roof in the country. |
To those of us who are not interested in the roofing industry, this may not mean a lot. However, in the roofing industry, it meant a transition into an entirely different way the industry measures roofs. This means no climbing, no time-consuming labor, quicker estimates, and no accidents. The EagleView software is used by thousands of roofers and insurance companies today. Sales are up 200% from last year, approaching $40 million, all through innovation.
Similarly, innovations can be made for any aspect of industry and/or business. A smart way to deliver products today is via couriers services like AQuickDelivery. Large corporations are seeking ways to cut transportation costs, especially within short distances and this is what couriers do. Online companies are becoming key shippers, and the e-commerce industry steadily grows, changing how industries do business. Innovation may not be the same way we do business, yet it will achieve better results.

The Postal Service has announced it will be releasing a proposal this week to discontinue next-day service options for first-class mail. Next-day service will change from one-to-three days to two-to-five days. With many financial challenges the Postal Service is facing, signs are showing it could become even more troubling without taking action |
The National Postal Policy Council (NPPC) will have to make a tough decision this week to help keep the company afloat. In a recent CNN report, Art Sackler, executive of the council stated, "This isn't a change we're happy about. But if they don't cut somewhere and substantially, they're going to run out of cash next summer. It's one of the lesser evils."
With their current state, it may be the right move. The report further mentions the Postal Service is facing another 20% lower mail volume period, which is the second recent occurrence and they have accumulated over $5 billion in debt in 2011. Yet at the same token, they have to pay another $5.5 billion for health retirement funds by the 18th of December.
If the Postal Service change does occur, courier companies will still be an option to depend on for these low cost, fast delivery services. Atlanta Couriers like AQuickDelivery specializes in same-day service nationwide and even next-day in the Atlanta area. This will be vital for timely company documents and local customer bill payments, which the Postal Service normally provided.

Black Friday sales online grew an astonishing 24% from last year, reported the Wall Street Journal. The data was received from IBM Coremetrics, which tracked 500 retailer's websites and gathered real-time sales data on the big sales day. E-commerce has been a huge investment made by department stores, aware of the holiday season, and the online sales numbers show it paid off. Their sales grew to 59% this year as well.
The success in sales online on Black Friday was not alone. They were also up over 39% on Thanksgiving Day. Many companies, such as Best Buy, offered the same huge deals online they did in their stores. This made it more convenient and attractive for shoppers to get the same deals without having to stand in lines. Still experts wonder will the sales momentum carry through Christmas and New Year's Day. |
Consumers are looking for the great pricing. The company that can continue with good discounts and promote them, will be the company that capitalizes on the remainder of the holiday season revenue. To continue to be successful, companies can use a courier service to minimize their delivery costs. AQuickDelivery is just an example of a courier that can meet fulfillment demands nationwide. This can prove to be a difference maker, especially for smaller companies and home-based businesses that are receiving the bulk of their sales online.
